Smash Mouth Accidentally Covers Own Song

Pop rock band Smash Mouth, known for its barrage of covers of hit songs like "I'm a Believer" and "Why Can't We Be Friends?", recently spent a day and a half of recording time unknowingly doing a cover of one of their own songs.

"Statistically speaking, it was bound to happen eventually," said one producer for their label, speaking under the condition of anonymity. "When you spend pretty much all your studio time cranking out covers of every hit ever recorded, sooner or later you're going to get around to your own."

While lead singer Steven Harwell was not immediately available for comment, Jason Sutter, who has been the band's drummer since 2006, claims, "I knew it was their song, but I thought they were just re-recording it. You know, to get me on the sticks."
